Damascus: Continued hostile actions by the West against Syria impede stability

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations said that the insistence of Western countries and their allies on their hostile actions towards Syria and the continuing violation of the principles of international law and the UN Charter impede their efforts to achieve stability.

Faraan: Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, stressed at yesterday’s Security Council meeting on the humanitarian issue in Syria the need to end the illegal foreign military presence and the immediate end of unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people which are hindering stability in Syria.

He said the persistence of some Western countries and their allies in continuing their hostile approaches and continuing violations of the principles of international law and the UN Charter have hampered Syria’s efforts to achieve economic and social stability and improve the living conditions of the Syrian people.

And this matter follows the illegal foreign military presence of Turkish and US forces on Syrian soil, their support for terrorist groups and separatist militias, and the looting of national wealth, including oil, gas and agricultural products, and economic terrorism through unilateral coercive measures which has been reflected on the Syrian people.

Bassam Sabbagh said; “The recent decision by the US government to authorize economic activities in certain areas in northeastern and northwestern Syria controlled by separatist militias and terrorist groups shows the US government’s direct support for these illegal entities, a clear violation of sovereignty, the independence and unity of the land and the Syrian people and a serious violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions.” He went on to say that holding a conference called the “Brussels Conference” in the absence of Syria’s invitation and leaving Russia out means that the conference has become a gathering of Western countries known for politicizing humanitarian issues.

The Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations stressed that the purpose of holding these conferences is to cover up the actions of the organizers of this conference against Syria and to punish and besiege the Syrian people and deprive them of basic needs. Sabbagh stated: “These aggressive policies against Syria coincide with the direct military invasion of Syrian territory by the occupying Israeli forces, the last of which was the firing of missiles at areas of the central region on Friday evening, the 13th of this month, which resulted in the martyrdom of five people, including a civilian, injuring seven civilians, amongst them a child, and suffered heavy casualties and several fires in the suburban forests.”

Sabbagh noted that the Israeli aggression coincided with a terrorist attack by terrorist groups in northwestern Syria against Syrian Arab Army units, which resulted in the martyrdom of ten soldiers and the wounding of several others and this serves to prove that they are terrorists. He continued: “Syria emphasizes that ending the illegal foreign military presence, immediate and unconditional lifting of unilateral coercive measures and increasing early recovery projects and quantitative and qualitative development are the only way to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria and achieve the goals of sustainable development.”

According to Sanaa, Sabbagh added that the general amnesty for terrorist crimes, according to Legal Decree No. 7 issued on April 30, does not include foreign terrorists, and that their countries of origin will be responsible for repatriating them and their families from Syria. Sabbagh explained: “The issuance of this exceptional decree, with its legal, social and political nature, is in the framework of measures taken by Syria for years to improve the humanitarian situation and strengthen national reconciliation and provide suitable conditions for the return of refugees and internally displaced persons. Syria has done something to restore security and stability in its communities.”

The Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations noted that Syria calls on some countries to put aside their wrong policies and, through responsible work with Syria and without any political considerations contrary to the interests, security and welfare of the Syrian people, adopt a positive political approach. Sabbagh stressed that Turkey’s efforts to establish a safe zone in the northern Syria are part of anti-Syrian projects and to achieve a divisive colonial goal and to create a focus that helps carry out terrorist plots against the Syrian people.
