Russia’s deputy envoy to the United Nations has said that the West still supports terrorists in Syria, saying that Western countries blocked the publication of a statement condemning Zionist attacks on Syria in the Security Council.
Faraan: The West has blocked the publication of a Security Council statement condemning the Israeli airstrikes on Damascus International Airport, which was prepared by Russia, said Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s deputy representative to the United Nations. “We regret that the draft Security Council statement prepared by us for the press was blocked due to the political and biased stance of the Western delegations,” Poliansky told a Security Council meeting.
“We are convinced time and time again that your political approaches are reflected in your principles,” he explained on Thursday morning, according to the RIA Novosti website. RIA Novosti, which received a copy of the statement, reported that the statement condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Damascus International Airport on June 10.
The Russian diplomat went on to say that Western countries continue to support terrorists in Syria, adding that they are trying to use terrorists for their geopolitical purposes. “The situation on the ground in Syria remains tense, and the main threats to security in Syria and the region are related to the continued presence of a large number of terrorists who have taken refuge in areas not under Damascus’ control, including Idlib and Al-Tanf.”
“Russia considers the roots of this explosive situation to be the continuation of the West’s flirtation with terrorist elements in an attempt to use them for its geopolitical purposes,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying. “In this regard, we are convinced that the solution to the Syrian crisis lies in ending the illegal presence of foreign troops in violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as the unconditional cessation of repeated Israeli airstrikes,” he said.
