Sermon 1: Imam Hussain (a) verdict on what should people do under governance of Taghoot
Sermon 2: Corruption in Ummah has given birth to tyrants. Transform your Azadari into Hamasa, else you will lose ritual as well like Afghanistan.
Wilayat is the social system for political management of society and there is order of Taqwa to believers in this. In Surah Maida verse 57
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا دِينَكُمْ هُزُوًا وَلَعِبًا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَالْكُفَّارَ أَوْلِيَاءَ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {57}
O you who believe! do not take for guardians those who take your religion for a mockery and a joke, from among those who were given the Book before you and the unbelievers; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers
Quran has ordered very clearly on who should be appointed as guardian (Awliya) and should not be as they are ones who manage the society. Allah says Allah is Wali, Messenger and from believers those who establish Salaat, Zakat and bow. The obedience should be done of Ulul Amr and only obedience is accepted from you. The obedience is only of Wali whereas for other relations like husband, wife, parents you have to deliver the rights. When father gets Wilayat then he should be obeyed if he is enacting Wilayat as per Allah’s system. We have mixed up Wilayat and rights. Who should be taken up as Wali is very clear in Quran and others like Jews, disbelievers, people of book should not be made Wali. These titles have come because they were being taken up as Wali as that time. This does not mean that if some title has not come, they are allowed to become Wali.
As per this verse 57, it was a system that even those who were mocking religion were given authorities because they were wise and intellect. Today also people take services of corrupt people and handover their business to them. Like for example the schools in which you are placing you children these schools are your Wali. If you send children to schools , colleges of Taghoot then those Taghoot are Wali of your children and as well parents who have studied there. You should not acquire them as Wali. If Taghoot come and take over, or some people hand over your state, education or give your authority to them in whichever way like democracy or force? So here what is your duty when someone is enforced as Wali on you and takes over the community authority. So, what should the people do?
This has been answered by Imam Hussain (a). The purpose of uprising of Imam Hussain (a) was Wilayat. The uprising of Imam Hussain (a) was first wrongly titled by Bany Umayyah as a rebellion against the ruler of state hence it was obligatory to crush it and took Fatwa from scholars. Qazi Shuraykh was the chief justice from the era of Caliphate and remained on the position till the time of Yazid. He gave the verdict that Yazid is Commander of faithful and Hussain (a) has rebelled against the ruler of state hence it is not prohibited and should be crushed. Some say on 4th Moharram Ubaidullah took the verdict of Qazi Shuraykh and this verdict was recited to the people for mobilizing them against Imam Hussain (a). This was the color which Banu Umayyah. We have to see what Imam Hussain (a) says about his uprising.
Imam Hussain (a) wanted people to rise but like today those who love and mourn on him are not in agreement with his purpose. At that time also people loved him but was not agreeing to his decision and wanted him to change this way. If you have not come on the way of Imam then you are not in agreement with him. Imam (a) expressed his purpose that I rising for reformation of the Ummah of my grandfather.
In the uprising of Imam Hussain (a) during the journey from Mecca to Iraq , at a very significant location Baiza where he was stopped by Hurr. Abu Mikhnaf was the writer appointed by Imam Hussain (a) to record every incident and Hamid ibn Muslim was from Ubaidullah’s side to report everything. Then we also have reports from Imam’s and women who were present in Karbala. Abu Mikhnaf was the first person who wrote Maqtal and even Tabari took the narrations from Mikhnaf.
He writes that the Hurr’s army which was around one thousand was addressed by Imam Hussain (a) in a sermon where he expresses the purpose of uprising and what is the duty of people. Listen to this and then compare with verse 57 of Surah Maida where you should not make Wali people who mock by democracy but if this gets done somehow and religious, political affairs, economy gets in the hands of one whom Allah has prohibited then what should the people do and what Imam desires.
Imam Hussain (a.s) says the Prophet (S) has said “Anyone (irrespective of era) who observes a tyrant, oppressed ruler who is making prohibitions as permissible, breaking the covenants of Allah, violating the customs of Messenger of Allah (s) and transgressing the limits of Allah by doing sins in public then a person who is living in such a governance and does not takes a stand against such tyrant ruler either by tongue or action, then Allah has the rights for this silent spectator to place and count this person with the tyrant”. Quran says do not make anyone like this as Wali and Prophet is saying here if someone has become then what is the duty, which is narrated here by Imam Hussain (a) that you have to oppose this Taghoot by words and actions both, else you become part of oppression.
Now after this Imam Hussain (a) tells to the Kufis that those whom you are accompanying are the followers of Satan and abandoned the servitude of Allah, they have spread and dominated corruption, they have forsaken the laws of Allah, they have acquired the public treasury. They have made Haram as Halal and Halal as Haram. I am more deserving for governance and instead you are standing against me. What I am doing is the order of Quran and Prophet (s). The duty of believer is to rise against such governance and not bring the rightful in power he will accounted with tyrants. We mourn for Imam Hussain (a) but do not agree with his way. If we were aligned with him then we would not have accepted any tyrannical government, we would not have become part of any corrupt system. Imam Hussain (a) says it is not enough that you should just love me instead you have to rise as well against the tyrannical government. First you should not appoint any tyrant as Wali and if this happens someway then you have stand to change them. Imam Hussain (a) says I have risen because the Prophet (s) says you cannot remain silent. This is an obligatory duty more than Hajj as Imam Hussain (a) left Hajj and went after Taghoot.
Today we mourn for Imam Hussain (a) but are not on the path of Imam Hussain (a). Those who are standing against Taghoot today they are on the path of Imam Hussain (a). If you do not stand then the Prophet (s) says that he will be counted with Taghoot. If we do Hajj, recite prayers, worship but do not raise our voice as well against the corrupt rulers, instead we do alliance with them. When Imam Hussain (a) told people that Yazid is corrupt they would reply that this is personal affair of Yazid. They would say his alcohol, adultery are his personal affairs. You can see that corrupt scholars today who are sitting with tyrants they say the same that it is their personal affair. If you do everything in the name of Imam Hussain (a) but do not stand against oppressed government then Allah will raise you with the tyrants and not with Imam Hussain (a).
When Bishr ibn Ghalib asked Imam Hussain (a) who is this Imam with whom we will be raised? Imam Hussain (a) said that one whom you followed in this world you will be raised with that Imam only. If you lived your live with Taghoot leaders even though you respect Imam Hussain (a) then still you will be raised with Taghoot leaders , Muawiya and Yazid. Who has authority over your life, on whose commands you deliver the affairs of your routine life? They are the rulers and you will be raised with them.
We only have to take lessons from past governments and we cannot do any benefit or loss to them. What is important is your own life and generation. So where is the current generation standing specifically those who are taking name of Imam Hussain (a)? Where are they in terms of political systems? Have we taken political stand against the tyrannical rulers? Today we have Majalis, lectures but there is no mention of the path of Imam Hussain (a). This sermon of Baiza is not recited anywhere. Apart from Imam Khomeini (r.a) is there any other Mujtahid who has used this sermon to issue a verdict that it is obligatory to stand against tyrants? This means you do not like the path of Imam Hussain (a) from here, you like to take the name of Imam Hussain (a) because that has benefits. On the path of Imam Hussain (a) you have to lose everything hence you don’t like the path but just the name of Imam Hussain (a).
Revisit this tradition again and see how many Mufti’s in history have issued verdict of rising against tyrannical rulers on the basis of this tradition of Prophet (s). Do you accept this tradition or not? If this is present then why you did not give verdict in Fiqh. This tradition is censured and how many generations have passed under tyrants with big sacred personalities living under them. Imam Hussain (a) says if you do not stand then you are with oppressed. To remain silent , support tyrannical governments is a crime. If our Ulama would have given this Fatwa then we would not have been where we are today. May Allah grant us Taufeeq to follow the path of Imam Hussain (a).
SECOND SERMON
Imam Hussain (a) stood for reformation of Ummah and said I want to do Amr bil Maroof and Nahy Anal Munkar on the Seerah of Prophet (s). Islaah (reformation) is against corruption (Fasad) which means something has been disturbed. The reformation is required only when something goes wrong or corrupt. The first sign of corruption in them is that a ruler like Yazid is born from amongst them. Yazid is born in societies where Taqwa gets annihilated. If you see in our country every ruler is dirty, so how come these corrupt persons have come in our society. When a society reaches this stage where such dirty, filthy rulers come in governance. This happens due to corruption of Ummah. This vision that if we elect righteous people in Parliament things can change is incorrect, as you have done this but still you see. Unless the Ummah does not gets reformed you won’t be able to get righteous persons out from this. When Lut stopped them from lustful corruption, they said we will remove you out from our community. A corrupt society does not accept righteous. The governance of Ali could not run because the people desired the world and Ali wanted them to desire Ali. They wanted to make Ali also like them hence they did not allow Ali to do governance. When Ummah has become corrupt then only filth comes out of it. The reformation of corruption takes place through awareness.
Imam Hussain (a) went to the best category of people in Mecca where they were all pilgrims. Not a single pilgrim was ready to stand against tyrants. They were not doing sins but their way of living was corrupt. Today as well the corruption of Ummah has given opportunity to Israel, America, Bin Salman, Arabs, given birth to corrupt politicians in Pakistan. If the Ummah was not corrupted then such corrupt rulers would not have been born. The personalities are born through corrupt Ummah. One famous writer has said that the land of Punjab has become barren and no personalities can be born from this land. Communities, culture, Ummah give birth to personalities. Those for whom Imam Hussain (a), Allama Iqbal are waiting do not get born.
Today its Moharram there is Gaza and Ummah is silent. They will do trading of Karbala and these are the Shaykhs who rob the Chador of Zahra and cloak of Abuzar. If community is reformed then Mujahid gets born. Those mothers are great who have given birth to Hamas, Hezbollah, Ansarullah, Hashad us Shabi. When the entire world is silent this small minority is standing so form that Jews, America is pleading to stop this war and not want to confront them. The majority are crying for Imam Hussain (a) but in shameful state.
During this Moharram the Taliban has put control in Afghanistan that mourning will be only for three days and only limited persons can come. The Ahle Sunnah cannot be included in these mourning gatherings. The food should be served only inside the hall. The Taliban will decide how many persons can attend and you cannot serve food to people on street. If you have Zionists on one side, and other side you have these Nasibis then these rituals which you are doing you won’t be able to do that as well. The Hamasa Azadari give birth to Azadar’s like Hezbollah, Ansarullah, Hashad. They know Moharram is the month of uprising and success of blood over sword. In this month when Imam Hussain (a) stood against Yazid then this is the best season for rising against tyrants. The oppressed have hard time in Moharram but not from the cultural Moharram. If you do not make Moharram as Hamasi then you will lose rituals as well. The Afghanis consider them as helpless but this helplessness is self-carved. We give justification that Kufis did not come because certain persons were placed in prison by Ubaidullah. The letter of Kufi’s state that hundred thousand are ready to support you. Ubaidullah came alone to Kufa and he relied only on the psychology of Kufi’s. He entered Kufi’s and these revolutionaries welcomed him considering Imam Hussain (a). When he removed this veil if these Kufi’s would have just slapped him and would be over. But they trembled and started to back off. At that time Ubaidullah said those who are followers of Banu Umayyah to come forward and certain people came up but still he was in minority. We say that Kufi’s were helpless as Ubaidullah did not allow them to go to Karbala. When Ubaidullah came alone where these Kufi’s helpless. They were free in your own town, so why you did not kill him. When Muslim was in the house of Hani , Ubaidullah came to visit Hani as as he was sick. The Kufi’s asked Muslim to attack him when he comes. You want a guest to kill him? All these helplessness was purchased and not natural. The same justifications are there with the Ummah as well. If the entire nation Shias do not accept the path of Imam Hussain (a) then you will lose everything. When Taliban did not come the Shias were with Ghani and Karzia. Why you were not prepared that Taliban can come again? Today Taliban has abandoned Fiqh e Jafari in Afghanistan and is a notification from religious affairs minority. Now they have controlled Azadari. They are stopping all your rituals as well. It is not that if you act with pragmatism, they will embrace you, they will even stop that. The Mujahideen’s today have taken the step where Israel is in big trouble. Hezbollah has demonstrated their war weaponry and if this encounter starts in Moharram then definitely this will be destruction of Israel. We believe that in this Moharram Gaza will get salvation and they will get success over these tyrants. We pray to Allah to destroy America and Israel from this earth completely.
