Analyzing the African Union’s condemnation of Israeli attack on Rafah

FARAAN: In a statement on Wednesday, the African Union condemned the Israeli attack on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip and called on the international community to stop “this bloody military tension.”

According to Al-Nashrah database, after the occupation of the Rafah crossing in the east of Rafah city by the tanks of the Zionist regime, the African Union announced in a statement: “Musa Faqi Mohammad, the head of the African Union Commission, strongly condemned the extension of this war to the Rafah crossing, which is the only crossing for the delivery of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.”

The continuous attacks of the Zionist regime army on the city of Rafah in the past 24 hours have led to the martyrdom of at least 35 Palestinian citizens and the wounding of nearly 200 others, among whom there are a number of women and children. Various areas of the Gaza Strip, especially the east of Rafah city, are still under air, land and sea attacks from the Zionist regime’s army, during which dozens of people have been martyred and wounded.

On Monday, despite international opposition, the Israeli war cabinet approved a ground attack on the city of Rafah, located in the south of the Gaza Strip, and the army of this regime has been occupying the Palestinian part of the Rafah crossing in the east of this city since Tuesday. This operation started only a few hours after the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced that it had accepted the ceasefire proposal of Egypt and Qatar; But the Zionist regime claimed that this proposal does not meet the essential demands of this regime.

In this regard, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned in a statement that the Zionist regime’s full-scale attack on Rafah will cause a humanitarian disaster and is a strategic mistake. In this statement, the UN Secretary General called on the Zionist regime and Hamas movement to reach a ceasefire agreement and prevent this regime from invading Rafah. Guterres called the current moment a decisive moment for the Palestinian people, the Zionist regime and the fate of the entire region.

This UN official warned in this statement: “Without a ceasefire, the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza will not work and will cause a devastating attack in Rafah.” Guterres continued by calling the full-scale attack on Rafah a humanitarian disaster, a strategic mistake. He described political disaster and humanitarian nightmare. According to IRNA, the International Committee of the Red Cross also announced that it warns against any military operation by the Zionist regime in Rafah because it will bring a catastrophic risk to the civilian residents. This committee emphasized: “We want to protect the civilians in the Gaza Strip and we guarantee their access to the basic needs of life.”
