Ankara: All parties should sit at the negotiating table and end the Syrian war

The Turkish Foreign Minister, who recently announced that he had a short meeting with his Syrian counterpart, said that all parties should sit at the negotiating table and end the Syrian war.

Faraan: Turkish Foreign Minister  Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, this afternoon (Tuesday), in a joint press conference with his Latvian counterpart in Ankara, mentioned the issue of reconciliation with Syria. According to the report of “TRT” channel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey stated in this regard: “All parties should sit at the negotiating table and end the war in Syria.”

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated in another part: “The [Syrian] opposition trusts Turkey and we have never left them alone, but we said that understanding is a condition for establishing stability and permanent peace in Syria.” The Turkish Foreign Minister said earlier at the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement that he had a short meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Maqdad.

“Anatolia” news agency quoted Çavuşoğlu as saying: “We must somehow make a compromise between the opposition and the Syrian regime. Otherwise, there will be no permanent peace [in this country].” He also said that there should be a powerful government that can prevent the division of Syria and the will to take control of all lands and this issue is only possible through unity.

These statements were accompanied by strong opposition from the opposition in Syria, to the point where opposition groups based in northern Syria burned the Turkish flag and started demonstrations against Turkey in northern Syrian cities. The terrorist group “Tahrir al-Sham” (former Jabhat al-Nusra) also reacted to the recent statements of the Turkish Foreign Minister in a statement and strongly condemned these words. In a part of its statement, this terrorist group did not consider Çavuşoğlu’s statements as “conforming to the principles of Turkish policies” and emphasized the need to oppose the Damascus government.
