According to leaked information from a US officer about the withdrawal of thousands of Russian infantry, engineering and aviation units from the Khmeimim Air base and the north and east of Syria, Moscow has indirectly responded to the Americans through flights and military parade on the Syrian border and ground patrol with the participation of the Syrian army.
Faraan: Some observers believe that Russia is aware of the old US plan to connect the northeast to northwestern Syria by creating a safe zone. They believe that the US plan in this region has a wide geographical scope, because it covers 23% of Syria’s territory and has economic growth, according to which armed groups are transferred to this region from inside Syria. At the same, time the implementation of this plan is a severe punishment for the Syrian government.
They added that the current geopolitical situation, and Russia’s involvement in the war with Ukraine, gave the Americans the opportunity to somehow understand the Turkish government, to take advantage of this opportunity, and to use this opportunity to dream of creating a region – safe zone – and this is what Syria has always warned about.
Some other analysts believe that Russia’s recent ground and air patrols along the Syrian-Turkish border are an indirect response to US claims that Russia has been weakened by the conflict in Ukraine and that the field in Syria is weakened. They say the Americans’ remarks are in fact a message to Turkey to tell Ankara that Russia is no longer powerful and now has no leverage to stop Turkish military operations in Syria.
The political pundits say that Russia, after spending money on Syria by sending troops and financial resources, could not leave the country due to its very important strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea due to the conflict in the Ukrainian war. Therefore, the Russian military patrol in Syria firstly reminds Turkey that there are agreements that have been violated by separating the so-called moderate groups from terrorist groups, and secondly, it aims to send a message to the United States that Moscow is neither in a state of weakness nor has it neglected Syria so that the United States can easily separate northern Syria from it with the help of Turkey.
Some political pundits also emphasize that America’s leaked messages and information are all organized, and that its purpose is to test the reaction of the adversary or the enemy. Undoubtedly America’s first enemy and adversary; is Russia, and these messages are a kind of provocation of the Turkish side to have a conflict with Russia, and any Russian maneuver in northern Syria is not a message to Turkey to exchange interests, but for the American side.
They point out that Russia’s confrontation with Turkey is out of the question, because Turkey is not seeking to occupy more territory than Syria, and in fact controls a good area of Syrian territory and cannot control more than that because its capabilities are very weak and does not allow it to do so.
