The Syrian Minister of Health announced the opening of a hospital by the UAE in the suburbs of Damascus. The Syrian Ministry of Health announced the opening of the field hospital “Mohammed Bin Zayed” near the Palace of Conferences in the suburbs of Damascus with a capacity of 135 beds.
Faraan: According to the report of Russia Al-Yaum, Hassan al-Ghabash, the Minister of Health of Syria, said in a speech: “This place was chosen for the construction of the hospital because of the coverage of the Ghouta region and the vast geographical areas of the suburbs of Damascus with a million population.”
He added: “The opening of the hospital was done with the support of the Emirates Red Crescent Organization and in line with the needs related to the Corona epidemic, and this hospital is a proof of the fraternal and strong and historical relations between the two countries.”
He said: “Mohammad Bin Zayed Hospital has complete medical equipment, laboratory and ICU department to provide appropriate medical and medical services to the citizens.” Not long ago, the Syrian Ministry of Transport announced that after several years of suspension, the first direct flight from Sharjah to Syria landed at Latakia Airport. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad entered the United Arab Emirates last year in an official trip and after cutting ties with the Persian Gulf countries for a long time, he met with a number of officials of this country.
Assad’s visit to the UAE took place a few months after Abdullah bin Zayed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, visited Damascus in November of the same year. At that time, Abdullah bin Zayed, while traveling to Damascus and meeting with Assad, on the sidelines of this meeting, presented the invitation of Mohammed bin Zayed, the then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Assad to visit the UAE. Last October, Emirati media reported that Mohammed bin Zayed, the then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad discussed the events in the region in a phone call.
With the beginning of the Syrian crisis in March of 2011, the UAE government, like Saudi Arabia and a number of other Arab countries, became the main supporters of the groups opposed to the Syrian regime, but after a while, Abu Dhabi stopped publicly and financially supporting the opponents of the Damascus government. And he tried not to involve himself too much in the Syrian crisis.
After the start of the Syrian crisis in March 2019, the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf and other Western-Arab countries closed the doors of their embassies in Damascus, the UAE was also part of this group, but Abu Dhabi reopened its embassy in Damascus on January 6, 2017 at the level of chargé d’affaires.
