Iran: Israel seeks own security through fomenting insecurity in region

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel’s repeated attacks on Syria, saying the Tel Aviv regime doesn’t tolerate stability in the Middle East.

Faraan: On Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh denounced Israel’s repeated attacks on the Syrian territory, especially the Tuesday targeting of Latakia port, the biggest gateway for food and medicine.

“At around 3:21 a.m. (0521 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression with several missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean … targeting the container yard in Latakia port,” SANA cited a military source as saying on Tuesday.

The attack caused “significant material damage,” according to SANA.

It was the second attack to target the port this month.

While it is an act of aggression against a UN member state and a violation of the country’s sovereignty, the spokesman said, the latest Israeli attack is “a clear manifestation of the regime’s goals to spark crisis and stir chaos in the region and it also constitutes an inhumane and immoral action.”

“The leaders of this regime- who don’t tolerate stability, security and tranquility of the region, and have defined their security in terms of [fomenting] insecurity and instability in the region- have violated and ridiculed the international law, rules and regulations by carrying out repeated attacks on the Syrian territory under false and unfounded pretexts,” he said.

He also stressed Syria’s right to defend itself against “the aggressors’ actions,” urging the international community to take the necessary measures to stop the recurrence of such attacks that, he said, endanger the regional peace and security.
