Following the Turkish attack on tourists in the north of the country, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office announced a day of public mourning throughout Iraq.
Faraan: According to Fars News Agency, following the killing and wounding of 32 Iraqi tourists in an artillery attack on the Turkish border, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi’s office announced public mourning throughout Iraq on Thursday.
According to Baghdad Al-Youm website, the statement of the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office called those killed in this incident “martyrs” and said: “The Prime Minister’s Office announces public mourning for the martyrs of the brutal Turkish attack on a resort in Dohuk province on Thursday.”
While the Iraqi government holds Turkey responsible for the killing of 9 people and the wounding of 23 others, the Turkish Foreign Ministry denied any involvement of the country’s military in the artillery attack on a resort in the north of Dohuk province and attributed it to the PKK group. On the other hand, PKK announced in a statement that it does not have any forces in the attacked area and those areas are occupied by the Turkish military.
Iraqi news sources reported yesterday evening that the Turkish army attacked the north of the country and hit a resort in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Iraqi media reported that following this attack, a number of civilians were killed and several others were injured. Moments after the publication of this report, the Iraqi Security Information Center confirmed the news of the media and announced that following this attack, 9 people were killed and 23 others were injured.
In this regard, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, while attributing this attack to Turkey, emphasized: “Iraq reserves its full right to respond to these aggressions and will take all necessary measures to protect the people of this country and impose the consequences of continuous tension on the side. will adopt the aggressor.”
Seyyed Moqtadi al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadr Movement, also announced in a statement: “Turkey, thinking that Iraq cannot respond except – with deep regret – with a weak statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has increased its insolence. Thousands of people from Baghdad gathered in front of the Turkish embassy today and chanted harsh slogans against this country and demanded the expulsion of Ankara’s ambassador. Also, today the Turkish flag was taken down from the consulate of this country in Erbil. The special center for issuing Turkish visas in Kirkuk, Iraq was also closed.
