FARAAN: The Syrian military operation with the support of the Russian Air Force in the Idlib Rif has cast a shadow over the events in Syria and created many questions in the minds.
Analysis:
Hassan Shakir, a researcher of political issues, considers the Syrian and Russian military operations in the outskirts of Idlib as a response to the bombing of Hama and Latakia suburbs by terrorist groups.
He stated that terrorists bombed citizens’ houses with drones, which caused many casualties, and noted: “It is not the first time that the terrorist groups use drones, but the bombing of civilians at a very important time, that is, after the Moscow meeting and the last round of the Astana meeting has taken place.”
He considered the operation of Syria and Russia in the Idlib Rif as a practical response to the terrorist groups present in that area, which sent a strong and clear message that one cannot be silent against terrorist attacks under any circumstances, whether domestic or international.
He pointed out that the so-called Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other terrorist groups refuse to implement the Sochi agreement to open the crossings and return refugees, which was signed years ago, and the operation of Syria and Russia is a practical field operation and the beginning of a solution for the problem of northwest Syria.
Samir Ayub, an expert on Russian issues, for his part, considered the Russian and Syrian airstrikes on the positions of armed terrorist groups to be a punitive blow in view of the recent terrorist attacks on civilians.
Ayoub said: “It seems that the airstrikes send a strong message to the terrorist groups and Turkey that Russia’s involvement in military operations in Ukraine cannot reduce the country’s role in Syria.”
Referring to the phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi regarding the situation in Syria, he said that Russia is more interested in solving the Syrian crisis than ever before.
He emphasized: “Russia insists on its position that any agreement between Turkey and Syria is only based on respect for Syrian sovereignty, the fight against terrorist groups, and the need for Ankara to adhere to previous agreements with Moscow in Sochi, which it did not implement.”
