Persian Gulf Cooperation Council emphasizes peaceful resolution of the Yemeni crisis

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council stressed the council’s firm position on a political solution to the Yemeni crisis and the realization of security, peace and stability in the country.

Faraan: Ahmad Awadh bin Mubarak, the foreign minister of the resigned Yemeni government, met with Nayef al-Hujrif, the secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, at the council headquarters in Riyadh.

During the meeting, Al-Hijraf stressed the firm position of the Gulf Cooperation Council to find a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, to achieve security, peace and stability in Yemen. According to the Al-Khaleej Online website, the two sides discussed the latest political, military and economic developments in Yemen. During the meeting, Al-Hijraf stressed the interest of the GCC member states in continuing to support what serves the interests of the Yemeni people, as well as supporting regional and international efforts in this area.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council recently announced that she would soon host talks between the Yemeni parties to discuss the future of Yemen and encouraged a ceasefire and the start of peace talks. Al-Hijraf’s remarks come as the Saudi-Emirati coalition invades Yemen for the eighth year in a row, and the military offensive, which ended with the siege of Yemen as the poorest Arab country, did not achieve any of the Saudi coalition’s goals. Rather, it has only killed and tens of thousands of Yemenis have been injured, millions have been displaced, the country’s infrastructure has been damaged, and famine and infectious diseases have spread.
