Pro-Prisoners protests turned violent in al-Khalil

Violent clashes broke out late Friday after Israeli occupation forces (IOF) opened fire at a Palestinian protest march in support of hunger striking prisoners in al-Khalil.

Faraan: The protest was held by Hamas Movement and a number of national groups in solidarity with the 6 Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails in light of their serious health decline.

IOF soldiers heavily fired teargas and sound bombs and rubber bullets at the protesters.

Similar pro-prisoners events were also organized following Friday prayers in different areas of al-Khalil.

This came as six Palestinian prisoners continue their hunger strike protesting the Israeli policy of administrative detention despite their critical health situation.

Prisoner Kayed al-Fasfous, from Dura town in al-Khalil, is considered the longest hunger striker as he has been on hunger strike for 115 days.

The other hunger-striking administrative detainees are Miqdad al-Qawasmeh, Alaa al-Araj, Hisham Abu Hawash, Ayyad al-Harimi and Louay al-Ashqar. They have been on hunger strike for 108, 90, 81, 46, and 28 days respectively.
