Eid Al Adha Sermon – 10th July 2022
Sermon 1: Sacrificing everything you possess in love of Allah is Qurbani
Taqwa is the divine protection which is been presented in Quran and preached through Prophet and delegated the Imams, Scholars for promoting Taqwa and establishing the system of Taqwa. The events specific where Taqwa needs to be promoted, taught to believers are Friday prayers as foremost and then is the Day of Eid. I express my felicitations and greetings to entire Ummah with supplications to understand the right path and may Allah grant all of us opportunity to establish unity and implement the teachings of religion.
The Eid Salaat is obligatory for non-Shias but for Shias there have been doubts due to which a verdict has been established that during the period of occultation of Imam e Zamana (a) is not absolutely obligatory. We have clarified this during Friday prayer sermons and same applies here as well for Eid. All Faqeeh agree that in the presence of infallible Imam Eid prayer is obligatory and if not present then it is optional to be recited as obligatory or recommended. We have negated this before in details and it was the Seerah of Imams was also to recite as obligatory. The believers will act in accordance to the verdicts of their Mujtahid.
There are two important Eid’s , one is Fitr and second is Eid-al-Adha. The important ritual related to Eid al Adha is Qurbani which comes from the word Qurb which means proximity. It is the means by which you become near to Allah which is an act of believer. It is in hadith that for every believer Salaat is Qurbani because you get near to Allah. The charity and sacrificing of animal falls in the same category. If you are doing Hajj in Mecca then sacrificing animal as Qurbani is obligatory but if you are not in Mecca then it is not obligatory but emphasized has been laid on believers by Imams to do this act and acquire proximity from Allah.
The benefits are known to us, whereby all these sacrifices should be benefited by relatives, neighbor and poor people. Certain scholars do not like that everything in religion should be told to people even though Allah has told everything clearly but scholars want to conceal it. Whatever is in Quran are the rights of people to know. The rituals which were announced by Quran or the Prophet ordered have an impression of the situation, circumstances of that era. These Ahkam were announced considering the situation of that era as well. At that time meat was not the part of daily meals of people due to economic situation. The rich people had more meat in their menu but for ordinary persons dates was the routine food. The meat was non approachable for them. Today meat has become actual meal for people. At that time meat would come to general public on some occasions of rich person’s marriage. One reason for emphasizing on sacrifice was to provide meat also to poor people. At present eating meat has become a problem due to health. Hence today sacrificing animal on Eid does not carry the same benefits as that era to provide. We have to consider what is being beneficial to people. Even though today there are many countries like Africa, Pakistan etc. they do not get meat to eat throughout the year. Those who eat meat throughout the year should not eat all the meat themselves and even if entire meat reaches the poor people then it is worth. There are three parts; one for you, another for relatives and third for poor. The food in which poor people are not involved is a very lowly food. Imam Ali (a) scolded his governor of Basra for attending a dinner where no poor persons were present. The way of life which Ahlulbayt have shown us should be applied in our lives.
There is a wisdom and philosophy behind the sacrifice we do on this Eid. There is a custom of Prophet Ibrahim behind this which he did on this day and Allah instructs to all guided believers to repeat that act so that we can deliver the character of Ibrahim. The sacrifice is the part of Hajj which is the custom of Prophet Ibrahim. We have been told by Quran that Ibrahim is the role model for you whom we have to follow as it is like a teacher writes something on the board and the students write the same in their books multiple time practicing it. Ibrahim was ordered to leave his well settled native place and migrate to a barren land. He was a native of Babylon and even now his birth place is present there. This is a fertile land with river but today people have industrialized it. I wish if Karbala would have been kept the same as it was before but the capitalists have changed everything.
Prophet Ibrahim was ordered to migrate to Mecca which was unsettled place in a valley. He left his wife and child who was born after eighty-two years there. Then Ismael became thirsty and his mother Hajar ran between the two hills shouting for help as the child was about to die of thirst. Then Allah miraculously made a spring gush out under the feet of Ismael. Then Hajar trained Ismael and made him young, then Allah orders Ibrahim to sacrifice his beloved thing. Ibrahim pondered and found that after Allah I love my son as he got him after intense desires. He presented the order of Allah to Hajar and she also agreed as it was divine order. He told Ismael as well and he replied that you will find me patient. Then Ibrahim left for Arafa where he was ordered to sacrifice his son. Then he came to Mina and the order was there where to sacrifice. During the journey Shaitan was trying to stop Ibrahim form this act. At three occasions Ibrahim stoned Iblis. He took Ibrahim on sacrificing place and when he placed the knife Allah said you have delivered what you promised. Then a sheep came as replacement and this became a custom. Every step, act of Ibrahim became a custom for Hajj for nurturing Ibrahim. The Seerah of Ibrahim, Hajar, Ismael became Hajj for us and in which one ritual is sacrifice.
In Surah Mumtahana Allah presented whom you should make as Uswa (role model)
قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ إِذْ قَالُوا لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَآءُ مِنْكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةُ وَالْبَغْضَاءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۖ رَبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ {4}
Indeed, there is for you a good example in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people: Surely we are clear of you and of what you serve besides Allah; we declare ourselves to be clear of you, and enmity and hatred have appeared between us and you forever until you believe in Allah alone– but not in what Ibrahim said to his father: I would certainly ask forgiveness for you, and I do not control for you aught from Allah– Our Lord! on Thee do we rely, and to Thee do we turn, and to Thee is the eventual coming.
The life of Ibrahim and his companions is the role model for you. When Ibrahim announced openly to his own relative and tribal people that I dissociate from polytheism. It is not just distancing from infidels but should have hatred towards the enemies as well. During Hajj we need to disassociate by announcing. Ale Saud has prohibited this due to friendship with enemies but the Shias have voluntarily done this to not dissociate with Shirk. The Shirk that is present in your community and homes. And not just disassociation but instead denial, hatred and fight with enemies. Unless they leave Shirk and accept monotheism this has to continue. One thing specifically to Ibrahim mentioned over here where Quran says Ibrahim should not be a model for you in one matter where it is mentioned about the father of Ibrahim. The word “Ab” is a general word and it is not similar meaning to father. The father in Arabic is one from whose loin someone is born. He was the inside guardian of Ibrahim and was provide sustenance to Ibrahim. He was an elderly community person and was the chief advising minister of Nimrud. Ibrahim told him and his companions that we are distancing from you, we deny you and we have enmity with you. Along with this since he was the guardian, Ibrahim said I will pray for forgiveness. Allah said this was only for Ibrahim, but for us we cannot supplicate for Mushrik father or any relative. If any relative does Shirk then you should not pray for their forgiveness.
In the verse 6 as well Ibrahim has been termed as a role model for the Ummah. The role model of Ibrahim has been given a physical form. Like today there are films made on Prophets. Allah has also filmed the foundations of religion. He selected three characters, selected the location for them and asked them to do certain things. When they successfully played their roles, they were made Imams and we have been told to follow them and repeat the same symbolic act on the same location and then return and do the same in your place.
In the past there used to be a small pillar which was to be hit by stones. In history there was nothing but a plain ground. When this Hajj was ordained , people would just throw stones there, then a pit was dug there and then a small pillar was made, and now a wall is made so scholars are concerned which part of the wall need to be stoned. This is a symbolic act where there is no Satan on that wall, but you have Satan in yourself, home, community which you have stone. This was the custom of Ibrahim which became syllabus for us.
Qurbani means presenting everything which you like in presence of Allah so that you become near to Allah. The third thing which is present in your way towards Allah , like wife, children, wealth, home, assets. You should see what you like. You have to see whom you love more. This does not mean you have to leave your children, wives but instead leave your love and make your love exclusive with Allah. It should become concentrated with Allah. Wife, Husband, children, means of life are your needs. We have not been told to burn everything. It was the love which was demanded from Ibrahim to sacrifice. Today we have to deliver this custom of sacrifice, but not just sacrifice everything which you do at Hajj was for proximity of Allah. Some people are not ready to shave their heads and hence do not go to Hajj. When you cannot shave for the sake of Allah then what else you can do. You do not have love with Allah even to this extent of shaving your head then what can you do. All these rituals have deep essence inside them. May Allah give us Taufeeq to walk on the footsteps of Ibrahim. Today we are happy on Eid because we have adopted the way of life of Ibrahim and we have made this covenant today that we will live this kind of life.
SECOND SERMON
Sermon 2: Partying with Ubaidullah and Umar ibn Saad for Elections
We should apply Taqwa in our lives and make it a foundation for all our relations, intentions, decisions and for all affairs make Taqwa as your policy as this plan is for our security. We should get benefit from Taqwa in this world which is the security of life. Today due to lack of Taqwa we can see the situation of Muslims. We have completely plucked out Taqwa from life. Our religion , government, politics is without Taqwa and such life becomes a wrath. Though all Muslim nations are living such a wrathful life but for Pakistani’s is the most painful wrath. And the same elected nominees in government have become a wrath. The worldly wrath is Khizy which is humiliation that people get when they leave the system of Allah, Quran, Ahlulbayt and make adulterer, drunkards as rulers. Quran has ordered to distance from such people and you have made them your Imams’ and they will become a wrath on you. Imam Ali (a) says that you have disobeyed your Imam and those who come in the place of Imam they will become a wrath on you. The wrath that came through Banu Umayyah over Muslims whereby most barbaric tyrants came over the people. Today what you call as politics is a divine wrath. We are living a wrathful life which we have purchased with our own hands by abandoning Taqwa.
The economic situation has reached bankruptcy and is worse than Sri Lanka. We have 240 million people, living on a fertile land and instead we are after destroying it and this is a wrath. With all the means of life present we are deprived for needs of life. Those whom we used to call white collared people as living dignified life; today such people are also begging. Today bribe has become a law in Pakistan and you have to give bribe. The bribe became common because when needs of life are not fulfilled and at the same time you are promoting a western life. When you develop attraction towards luxurious life and at the same time means of life are not there then people will fulfill these desires through bribes. There might not be anyone who has not paid bribe. You go to make passport, get electricity bill, driving license, admission in colleges and anything you want to do you have to pay extra. How this Haram came in our economy because the needs of people were more and income was less which was fulfilled through Haram. The system was running with that. Now the situation is that even this Haram has become insufficient. You cannot even buy tomatoes, onion, spices as they are unaffordable. You cannot pay school fees for children.
They have opened third path for the people. The taxes have been increased, inflation gone up and now burdened people have only one path that is of crime. Now people won’t take bribe but instead will do robbery and for that killing will start. If you see the news of crimes. Yesterday’s news, a son slaughtered his own father in Wazirabad in open market. This is happening every day. In the same newspaper a news came that brother-in-law killed his wife and brother-in-law for inheritance issues. We term them as drug addicts doing these acts but reality is due to the politics without Taqwa which is doing all this. Those who have the reins of government in their hands have got the country in this situation. If someone’s home is running and in neighbor is in trouble. They come to know eventually that someone in this house is dacoit than they also demand to become part of some gang.
After Eid, there will be elections where everything will be sent for this wrath of elections. If this nation had sense they should have hurled shoes on these people who are coming for votes. One party ruled for four years as wrath and other party also has done worse after them. Now both parties have come with supporters of Karbala, Imam Hussain. At present the competition is between Umar Ibn Ziad and Ubaidullah. Is this Taqwa, sense and knowledge? You should have disassociated from all these. Tell them that we deny you and are enemies to you. They have adapted Taghoot and made a wrath for the people. You were called on hajj to stone this political Satan and given salvation. This role model of Ibrahim was for this. The Prophet has said, 3 types of hajj will be done, some for trading, some for luxury and some for getting fame. They will make selfie from Mecca tower which is 100 meters above Kaaba as an insult. You have done a Zionist Hajj and not Arafa. This year the sermon which was done in Arafa on 9th Zilhajj was delivered by Zionist speaker. This is because Biden is coming with Zionist lobby to Medina. They want to make an Ibrahimi pact. First you were sitting silent on Baitul Muqaddas and now you save your Haramain from these Zionists, who were claiming that we are defenders of Haramain. They have kept Haramain the name of luxuries there which they want to defend. The role model of Ibrahim is the path of salvation. The nation should announce their disassociation from these rulers. If you become part of them, support them Allah says do not become supporters of oppressors. Imam sajjad in Dua e Arafa says do not make me a supporter of oppressors and tyrants. This is the role of model of Ibrahim and to act on this is the time now in Pakistan. This Ummah should acquire the upright path of Ibrahim which does not go left and right.
You want to leave Imam Hussain and say Labbaik to Umar ibn Sa’ad. Like in Kufa you invited Imam Hussain and now standing with the army of Umar ibn Saad. Can these Azadar of Hussain not stop this crime. You have made this entertainment as to who is going with whom? Why you are becoming part of wrath. You wont even get bones from them, nothing you will get and still you go in their feet and then give justifications. This is the role model of Ibrahim. We pray to Allah on this great day to protect Pakistan, give salvation to this nation from rulers, grant sense, awakening to this nation, humiliate the internal an
