Sana’a: Saudi Arabia should prove its seriousness for peace

The head of the Yemeni National Salvation Government’s negotiating team has said that Saudi Arabia would respond positively to Sana’a’s initiative by stopping the aggression, lifting the siege and withdrawing foreign forces from Yemen.

Faraan: Mohammed Abdul Salam, the head of the Yemeni National Salvation Government’s negotiating team, said that the Saudi regime should prove its seriousness in moving towards peace through positive interaction with the peace initiative announced by Yemeni Supreme Political Council Chairman Mehdi Al-Mashat.

Abdul Salam added: “Therefore, Saudi Arabia must accept the ceasefire and remove foreign forces from its territory by lifting the siege of Yemen.” The head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council announced a three-day unilateral ceasefire with Saudi Arabia on Friday evening. He also said that all land, air and naval attacks by the Yemeni armed forces against Saudi Arabia would be stopped for three days and that offensive operations on the domestic fronts would be suspended during this period.

Hours earlier, the head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council announced a three-day unilateral ceasefire by the Yemeni armed forces on all internal and external fronts, saying that the ceasefire would only go ahead if the Saudi coalition stopped all attacks and aggression against Yemen.

Al-Mashat, while announcing the cessation of attacks on all Yemeni fronts over the past three days, said: “If Saudi Arabia withdraws all foreign forces from our soil and water and stops supporting the local militias in our country, we will stop the clashes and turn the ceasefire into a final commitment.”

It’s been more than 7 years since the people of Yemen have been subjected to the worse forms of oppression. It’s still hard to believe that people are starved to death even in 2022. I think this is dishonest of the Saudi regime and they most likely won’t fulfill their promise.
