Sana’a’s warning about the continued seizure of ships carrying fuel in Yemen

The head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen emphasized the need for the member states of the aggressor Saudi coalition to adhere to the provisions of the ceasefire agreement.

Faraan: Mehdi Al-Mashat, head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen, condemned the actions of the member countries of the US-led aggressor Saudi coalition to seize ships carrying Yemeni fuel. Al-Mashat said: We condemn the actions of the member countries of the Saudi coalition to seize fuel-carrying ships in the shadow of the ceasefire, despite the inspection of these ships and the issuance of UN permits.

He said: “The seizure of ships carrying oil products has put the ceasefire to the test.” According to the report of Al-Masira website, the head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen stated that the aggressor Saudi coalition is trying to take advantage of the humanitarian aspect through the cruel siege to realize political achievements that it was unable to achieve in the military battle.

He emphasized the need for the member countries of the Saudi coalition to adhere to the provisions of the ceasefire agreement and implement all its clauses in order to resolve humanitarian and economic problems. The two-month ceasefire in Yemen began on the 2nd April of this year but it was on the 22nd of May that the UN envoy for Yemen affairs, Hans Grundberg, announced that the parties involved in Yemen agreed to the same terms as the original agreement that the ceasefire would last for another two months till 2nd of August.

The Saudi-Emirati coalition does not have many options to get the agreement of the leaders of Sana’a to extend this ceasefire, and Sana’a is completely against extending it in its current form. Hans Grundberg, the UN special envoy for Yemen affairs, recently said in a statement about the difficulty of extending the ceasefire and pointed out some shortcomings in its full implementation.
