The controversy of Maghrebi mayor’s trip to the occupied territories

The recent visit of Mounir Limouri, the mayor of Tangier as the head of the “Association of Heads of Municipalities of Maghreb” to the Zionist regime, was followed by a wide controversy in this country.

Faraan: Limouri’s visit to the “occupied territories” was confidential, because (the municipality) of Tangier, before the explosion of social networks regarding the three-day trip of this Maghreb official to the occupied territories and visiting Tel Aviv and occupied Jerusalem, did not have any information on its official website or he did not announce any details about this meeting.

The disclosure of the secret trip of the mayor of Tangier to “Israel” provoked the anger of political and human rights activists against normalization, because the opposition United Socialist Party called Limuri’s meeting with the mayor of Rishon Letzion in the Palestinian village of Ayoun in the occupied region in 1948 as a “dangerous and unexpected step” and considered unprecedented.

According to the controversies raised, the “Association of Heads of Maghreb Municipalities” headed by Limuri had to break his silence on Friday and say: the head of this association will be on a business trip from July 12 to 15, at the invitation of “Haim Yebbas”, the head of the regime’s municipalities. to the occupied territories.

Aziz Hanawi, one of the watchdogs of the Maghreb against normalization, told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed this Saturday that the trip of the mayor of Tangier is condemned by all standards considering that “two crimes have been committed”. Because he, as the mayor of Tangier, rejects normalization in all its forms, and secondly, he has misused the position of the Association of Mayors of the Maghreb, secretly and without the knowledge of the rest of the council members, to the occupied territories.

According to Hanawi, “He has committed a complex crime by all standards, because his visit to the settlements built by the Zionists in the usurped lands of Palestine, is the official recognition and acknowledging of these settlements.
