Turkey and its military bases in northern Syria

The consequences of the conflicts between the armed groups are still reflected in the north of Syria and the situation in the Aleppo countryside is still stormy.

Faraan: In fact, in an attempt to cover up its internal challenges and regional failures, Turkey has prepared the ground for bloody conflicts between armed groups, in order to pave the way for the creation of its new military bases in the conflict areas in the north of Aleppo.

Local sources in the western outskirts of Aleppo announced that the Turkish army has started the work of establishing a military base in the outskirts of al-Ghazawieh pass, which separates Idlib province – under the control of al-Nusra Front – from the borders of Afrin in the northwestern outskirts of Aleppo. These sources pointed out that the Turkish army has started the construction work after bringing cement blocks to this area. Nonetheless, a similar action is needed at the Deir Balut crossing, which also leads to Afrin, through which al-Jolani sent part of his military convoy to enter this area.

With a little thought about this news, we can conclude that Turkey has made mistakes in politics since the beginning of the Syrian crisis until today, and it is not limited to supporting armed elements and their political and media support, but has distorted the facts in Syria to a large extent. In the shadow of such a policy, Turkey has fallen into the swamp of northern Syria, to the extent that it has not been able to end this irrational situation. So it always creates a false reading of reality, a scene that is always repeated on the Syrian border with Turkey, which, among other factors, is caused by Turkey’s attempt to overthrow the Syrian government and divide this country and thus has a negative impact on the security and stability of this country.

Turkey also continues its hostile role against Syria and focuses on supporting armed groups in northern Syria, a situation that threatens the security of the region and leads it to disastrous consequences. Since 2011, Turkey has been repeating the same mistakes and is constantly trying to redraw the equations of its control. Supporting terrorism has become a springboard for Turkey to continue its aggression and occupation in Syria. Everyone knows that Turkey’s real interests in the suburbs of Idlib, Aleppo, Latakia and Hama require reliance on Jabhat al-Nusra, which at the same time is considered a central player. Therefore, with Turkey’s interests at the top, Ankara considers this terrorist group to be the main force in the entire northern region and is trying to introduce it to the only representative of the Syrian opposition in the north of the country, which requires military support and establishing the control of Al-Nusra over the regions under its occupation. Military bases are being built as part of such consolidation efforts.

Consolidation of Turkey’s military presence with new laws contradicts Turkey’s political discourse and the country’s efforts to get closer to Syria. It seems that the events and developments in northern Syria and the recent military tensions between the armed groups are not beyond resetting the cards of chaos and terrorism, and Turkey always continues to support them.
