Washington imposes new sanctions on Yemen

The US Treasury Department has targeted sanctions in a statement claiming to have involved a network involved in financing Ansar al-Yamin.

Faraan: The US Treasury Department said in a statement on Wednesday, February 23rd that the sanctions target the “Ansar Allah network” of Yemen.

According to this ministry, the names of three individuals, nine companies and a merchant ship have been added to the list of individuals and entities under the auspices of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which is a subsidiary of the ministry, due to its financial ties to Ansar Allah of Yemen.

Among the embargoed are two non-Yemeni nationals (an UAE national and a Greek national). The sanctioned companies are from Yemen, Turkey and the UAE, and the sanctioned ship operates under the flag of Saint-Kitts and Nevis. A coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been targeting the poor Yemeni country with heavy air, land and sea attacks since April 2015 to restore power to the ousted Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

These attacks have led to the destruction of Yemen’s infrastructure and the spread of poverty, unemployment and the spread of infectious diseases in this poor Arab country. Tens of thousands of Yemeni civilians have been killed and injured since the attacks began. UN experts describe Yemen as the scene of the world’s greatest humanitarian crisis. More than 75% of the Yemeni population is currently in need of some kind of humanitarian assistance and support. Of these, millions do not know where their next meal will come from.
