FARAAN: While Saudi Arabia and some Arab countries want Damascus to return to the Arab League, Washington has informed Riyadh and Tel Aviv that it is against the efforts to return Damascus to the Arab League.
Commentary:
Lebanese officials believe that the strong opposition of the United States to any efforts to return Syria to the Arab League was not far from expected, because the United States has mainly intervened in the affairs of Arab countries, especially since 2011, by supporting terrorist groups in Syrian issues, and this fact was confirmed by Hillary Clinton. The then US foreign minister confirmed Washington’s clear role in the establishment of the ISIS terrorist group.
Pointing to numerous clear statements about the support of the United States to terrorist forces, the experts stated that the American government has been trying to overthrow the Syrian government from the very beginning and believes that the president who comes to work after Bashar al-Assad will be in the service of Washington. And therefore, Assad’s survival in power endangers the interests of America and its regional allies.
They pointed out that America’s anger is due to the fact that it sees an Arab country that played a prominent role in the siege of Syria and supporting terrorist groups in this country has now extended a hand of friendship to the Damascus regime, and this situation does not only mean the failure of American policies in Syria, but throughout the region. According to these experts, the establishment of convergence between Iran and the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf on the one hand and the tendency of the Arab countries towards Syria on the other hand has put the strategic interests of the United States at risk.

Experts believe that America’s insistence on opposing efforts to return Damascus to the Arab League is the result of the loss of American control and the reduction of its influence and credibility in the Middle East region.

Experts also stated that diplomatic movements are taking shape in the Arab region that are not pleasing to the American leadership and they cannot even stop them, moreover, international equations are also changing.
